Kamal Haasan’s daughter and actress Shruti Haasan has said in an interview that her dad turned to the Malayalam industry at one point in his career as he couldn’t experiment much in the Tamil cine industry. There was not much scope for experimental films in Tamil around that time, which prompted the star to move over to Mollywood.

Stating that her dad was always experimental, she pointed out that the Malayalam film industry provided him with a strong platform. She added that her father connects with Kerala so much that she felt it could be linked to a previous birth.

Kamal’s tryst with the Malayalam film industry began in the year 1962 with his first Malayalam film Kannum Karalum. Some of his award-winning performances in the Malayalam film industry were in Kanyakumari, Yaetta.

Having acted in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi movies, Shruti says that she has been advised by her father to take up Malayalam films in order to hone her acting skills further.

Looking forward to the release of the Suriya starrer S3 in Tamil and the remake of Malayalam hit movie, Premam in Telugu, Shruti hopes to sign up for a Malayalam film soon.
