Members of Nadigar Sangam met the Chennai police commissioner on Tuesday and asked for police protection for their annual general body meeting, which will be taking place at Loyola College on November 27.

The treasurer of the association Karthi, vice-president Ponvannan and others from the association submitted a complaint to police commissioner S George. The association members told The Times of India that they are expecting trouble from rivals, who could disrupt the meeting.

The members decided to submit a complaint after a rival faction from Nadigar Sangam filed a petition in the court asking for a stay on the general body meeting. The court had accepted their petition and sent a notice to Nadigar Sangam general secretary Vishal. The court has asked for a reply by November 25.

Karthi told the media that the police have promised to provide security for the general body meeting, which will be taking place as scheduled.

The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) had recently temporarily suspended Nadigar Sangam’s general secretary Vishal from the primary membership for criticizing the Producers Council in an interview to a magazine.
