The police on Thursday said that they were still waiting for a response from YouTube to its request to identify the person who first uploaded the now controversial 'beep' song.
"We have not got any response from them. Once we know the IP address, we can track down the person,” a police officer told The Hindu while another police officer said that the whereabouts of the actor were unknown and added that, “based on the FIR we filed, we are still searching for him."
This comes a day after the cybercrime cell of Chennai police alerted all major airports in the country to detain actor Simbu for the controversial song, fearing that he will try to leave the country.
Anirudh is currently in Canada and Simbu is out of the city. On Tuesday, Simbu’s plea for anticipatory bail was heard in Madras High Court but the government opposed the bail.
Actor Simbu and music director Anirudh have been charged under IPC sections for obscenity and IT Act for uploading offensive material.
The controversial ‘Beep song’ was leaked on the internet on December 11. The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) filed a police complaint in Coimbatore against the song which later led to issue of a summons by the police to the duo. Both did not appear before the police on December 18, 2015 and another summons was issued asking them to appear on January 2.
