Eight people were killed and seven injured in a van-bus collision in Telangana's Nalgonda district on Wednesday. The accident occurred near Devatupalli village when a Tata Ace van collided head on with a bus from the state’s Road Transport Corp (RTC).
The police said that according to preliminary investigation, it seemed that the van driver lost control of the vehicle due to a tyre burst and it rammed into the bus coming from the opposite direction.
While seven people died on the spot, one of the injured succumbed to injuries while being shifted to Hyderabad. The injured were admitted in a hospital in Hyderabad. The dead include three women. The van driver was also killed in the collision.
The vehicle was reported to be heading to Devarakonda in Nalgonda district and the accident took place near Chennur village at around 2 pm.
According to media reports, 16 people were travelling in the seven-seater van at the time of the accident, while another 10 people, passengers from the van and the bus, were undergoing treatment for their injuries. Besides the tyre burst, the police also suspect that overloading of the van could also have led to the tragic incident.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed deep shock over the tragic road accident in Nalgonda District. The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the members of the bereaved families. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to provide better treatment to the injured,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
State Minister G Jagadish Reddy, who is the sitting legislator from Suryapet, also expressed grief and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, the police registered a case and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to a government hospital in Devarakonda for a post mortem before they were handed to their families.
