The two legislators from the Congress who were expelled from the Telangana Assembly last week approached the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday, asking the court to declare the expulsion 'invalid'.

Asking the court to direct the Telangana government to furnish the full video of the incident that took place, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar also protested against the Legislature secretary action of issuing a gazette notifying vacancy for Nalgonda and Alampur (SC) Assembly constituencies.

They also alleged that they were singled out, because of a personal grudge held by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The court is scheduled to hear their plea on Friday.

Last week, Speaker Madhusudhana Chary announced the disqualification of the two MLAs. They stand expelled from the House for the rest of the period of the current Assembly which is the first since Telangana became a separate state in 2014 and the term will last till April-May next year.

Eleven Congress members including floor leader K. Jana Reddy, were also placed under suspension for the current budget session.

Venkat Reddy was seen throwing headphones at the Governor when he was addressing the joint session on Monday. The headphone hit Council Speaker Swamy Goud which led to an eye injury.

Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao moved the motion for disqualification of the two Congress members under provisions of clause 3 of Article 194.

While the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) fully supported the action against the Congress members, the Bharatiya Janata Party floor leader G. Kishen Reddy objected to the suspension of some members like K. Jana Reddy.

Justifying their expulsion, KCR told the House, “If they have any objection to the Governor's speech, they can raise it during the debate in the House. They can lodge their protest in a democratic manner in various forms. But resorting to attacks is not acceptable,”
