Three years ago, after a three-storey building of the Iranian City Light hotel that was 80 years old, collapsed in Secunderabad killing at least 17 people, GHMC at the time took up a drive to demolish old buildings.
One of the buildings, which had been demolished in 2013, after the incident, was the market yard in Domalguda. However, the debris of the building has been still lying at the same place for the past three years.
The spot has now become a dumping ground for garbage.
“Many residents complained about the dust from the debris but were ignored. No official answered our queries,” Ms. Manjulatha, a resident of Domalguda, told Deccan Chronicle.
GHMC deputy commissioner Mukund Reddy said that they had planned to construct a new building after the old structure was demolished but the process has taken longer than expected. He also informed that the work might start this year.
Also, the Hyderabad Metro Rail in a hurry to complete two stretches in the first leg, has been delaying road repairs and removal of debris, which have become a problem for commuters.
Earlier, the Times of India reported that debris lying in the stretch from Sultan Bazaar to Badi Chowdi in Old City and Erragada ESI, was not cleared.
Another bottleneck is the Ameerpet road near Big Bazaar and Somajiguda stretch, where debris has been lying on the roadside.
