A day after the budget 2019-20 was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president and son of Telangana CM, K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) slammed the BJP-led Centre and termed the budget “extremely disappointing” and “insipid”.

Attacking the BJP in a series of tweets on Saturday, KTR wrote, “Extremely disappointing & insipid union budget from Telangana’s perspective. Economic survey praises Telangana’s initiatives but FM @nsitharaman Ji completely ignores a performing state’s requests for support.”

Expressing his displeasure, he said that while the NITI Aayog--the policy think tank, had appreciated the irrigation and drinking water projects taken up by Telangana government and recommended the Centre to allocate Rs 24,000 crore, the BJP-led Centre didn’t even allocate Rs 24.

Questioning why the BJP didn’t accord national project status to Kaleshwaram and Palamuru lift irrigation project, he said, “Telangana state has repeatedly demanded national project status for either Kaleshwaram or Palamuru lift irrigation project on various forums. No mention or even acknowledgement. Are Telangana’s projects not in the interest of our nation FM @nsitharaman Ji??”

He also accused Nirmala Sitharaman of showing 'indifference' towards Telangana. "Even after 5 years of formation of Telangana, no mention of the AP Bifurcation Act promises; integrated steel plant at Bayyaram, Rail Coach factory at Warangal, Tribal University etc. Why this indifference to a promising young state FM @nsitharaman Ji?"

Suggesting that the budget presented by the BJP was a failure, he attached an old tweet made by Narendra Modi, who was then CM of Gujarat, who criticized the UPA government for hiking the fuel price and dubbed the government a 'failure'.
On Friday, after the budget was presented in which the Finance Minister had announced the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ project — a drinking water project for every household by 2024, KTR said that the project was inspired by Telangana’s Mission Bhagiratha. “Last year Telangana’s “Rythu Bandhu” inspired Govt of India to launch ‘PM Kisan’. Now it’s Telangana’s “Mission Bhagiratha” that inspired Govt of India to launch ‘Har Ghar Jal Yojana’.” He said that his father was a visionary for entire India.

The TRS MPs too had expressed their displeasure at the Union Budget and called it a “pro-rich” budget.

TRS floor leader in the Parliament and Khammam MP, Nama Nageswara Rao had said, “We were hoping that a developing city like Hyderabad would get something, but that didn’t happen. They have given exemptions on electric cars but a common man cannot afford it, so it’s of no use to them.”

In the budget, the government has also decided to increase customs duty on petrol and diesel products by Rs 1 per litre. The customs duty on gold and precious metals has also been increased from 10% to 12.5%, while the Goods and Service Tax (GST) rate on electric vehicles will be lowered from 12% to 5%. It also said that an additional Income Tax reduction of Rs 1.5 lakh would be given on interest paid on loans taken to purchase electric vehicles.
