In a special drive, Telangana's Legal Metrology Department took note of several complaints from consumers and conducted checks on the godowns of several large Multi National Corporations (MNCs) on Tuesday.

Department chief Akun Sabharwal organized 15 teams with each one lead by one Assistant Controller to conduct these special raids.

Authorities said that 113 cases were booked and Rs 12 crore worth of goods were seized in the special drive for violation of the Packaged Commodities Act. 

"Raids were conducted at Delivery Pvt. Ltd. delivery point for Amazon and Flipkart; Big Bazar Stock Point; Maagi Food Products; Dabur India Limited; LG Electronic Products; Philips c/o Vulcan Express Pvt. Ltd. at Kondlakoya; Vodafone Stock Point at Kondlakoya; Himalaya Drug Company; Samsung Godowns at Kondlakoya; Satya Trading Company; Havells India Limited, Sachdev Overseas Fitness Pvt. Ltd., Vester Daikin ACs, Butterfly Stock Point, Skyworth Smart TV etc," the department said in a press release. 

At Sachdev Overseas Fitness Pvt Ltd in Medchal, 11 cases were booked for not complying with the rules and officials seized goods worth Rs 5.16 crore. At Big Bazaar Stock Point, 45 cases were booked and goods worth Rs 46 lakh were seized. 

At Maagi Food Products, 20 cases were booked and goods worth Rs Rs.4 crore were seized. At LG Electronic Products, goods worth Rs.1.79 lakh were seized.

While one case was registered against Vodafone Stock Point and goods worth Rs 5,000 were seized, officials seized goods worth 3.24 lakh at Himalaya Drugs Company, where one case was registered.

11 cases were booked against Samsung Godowns, while seven were booked against Havells India. While goods worth 16.48 lakh were seized from the former, authorities seized goods worth Rs.10.93 lakh from the latter.

Meanwhile, 6 cases were registered against Philips c/o Vulcan Express Pvt. Ltd and goods worth Rs.3.9 lakh were seized, while authorities registered 5 cases against Flipkart and seized goods worth Rs 2 lakh. 

Dabur India Limited was also booked under 5 cases and property worth Rs 50 lakh was seized.

Besides this, consumers can also raise a complaint through social media or visit the website, www.consumeradvice.in, the Legal Metrology Department stated.
