BJP President Amit Shah on Sunday said that it will not allow the Telangana government to implement 12% reservation for minorities. Addressing an election rally at Parkala in Warangal district, Amit Shah said the BJP will neither provide quota on the basis of religion nor allow its implementation by others.
“The KCR government wants to give 12% reservation to minority community despite the Supreme Court setting a limit of 50% on reservations. I want to ask KCR whose reservation will you cut? Will it be of that of the SC or ST or that of the OBC? This minority reservation is against the spirit and Constitution of India. We reject this, will not support it and will not allow others to implement reservations to communities based on their religion,” said Shah. He was referring to the April 2017 resolution passed by the Telangana Legislature, which was then sent to the Centre, seeking its nod for increasing reservation for Muslims in jobs and education from the current 4% to 12%.
In his election speeches, Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao has been targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not giving the nod to hike the quota for Muslims. Amit Shah said the BJP party would stand as a rock to protect the reservation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and backward classes.
The BJP national president, who is on a day-long visit to Telangana to address election rallies, claimed that only his party could provide a government in Telangana which would not be dependent on the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and its leader Asaduddin Owaisi.
He said the December 7 election would decide the future of the state.
Accusing KCR of imposing an additional burden on the state by going for early polls, Amit Shah hit out saying the TRS leader is promoting his son and daughter. He alleged that KCR was afraid of Modi's impact if the Assembly polls were to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
He also claimed that the central government provided over Rs 2.30 lakh crore for the development of Telangana during the last four years. The BJP Chief said half of these funds were allocated under 14th Finance Commission.
“For Telangana’s development, the BJP at the Centre has given seven times more money. Apart from this we have helped fund the Murda bank scheme by Rs 15,000 core, for Smart City project Rs 124 crore, for Amruth mission Rs 34 crore, for railway projects Rs 19,932 crore, for Urban Mission Rs 1150 crore , for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Rs 1221 crore and for the development of backward districts Rs 900 crore, for road projects Rs 14,800 crore and for women development Rs 155 crore,” said Shah.
He also said that Telangana was a revenue-surplus state but the TRS government imposed a burden of Rs 2 lakh crore loans on the state. Amit Shah said KCR also failed to implement the promises he made in the previous elections.
Amit Shah also lashed out at the Mahakutami or the grand alliance stating that Communists, who were losing ground across the world, and Congress, which was getting wiped out in the country, had come together in Telangana.
Appealing to people to vote for the BJP, Shah said his party alone could provide a government which could save Telangana and take it forward on the path of development.
